  • Sound

DAVID ADAMIC, Sound Mixer - Sound is a key area where independent films can either succeed or fail. David gets that and let it be known if we needed to get another line or if what we got wasn’t usable. He just gets it done. He was like an anchor with his setup and professionalism. We owe David a lot and the importance of what he (and Noel) have done for us isn’t lost on me.

NOEL ESPINOSA, Boom Operator - Most people look at boom operators and think, “I could do that, stand there and just hold a pole.” But what they don’t realize, and what I learned on this movie, is that operating a boom is an art - the difference between good sound and bad sound can be a matter of inches and everybody has seen a scene ruined by the boom dropping into frame. Noel is an artist. He lives in those inches and will stand, sit, and shift wherever he needs to in order to get the dialogue. He, along with David, need to know the script, where people will be standing, and how scenes will play out.

Beyond that, Noel had many ideas that improved the movie beyond sound. Noel was one of the most experienced crew members on our set and at the start of production I told the crew that I would be open to ideas. Noel believed that and gave me his thoughts even when I perhaps had forgotten my own request! There were many times when Noel would have an idea and as he would start talking to me, in my mind I would believe that I didn’t need it, but Noel would persist and remind me I asked for it! More often than not after I put aside my pride or impatience, I would use Noel’s suggestions and realize how invaluable they were. He made the movie better.
